THE TEAM : Greg Conrad
'I didn't always want to be a hairdresser; I wanted to be a pilot. I met a few hairdressers and I thought it sounded like fun and so I gave it a go.’
I started my apprenticeship when I was 19 in Melbourne at Queens. It was a wonderful entree into this area. Qualifying was a huge highlight for me. I really felt I'd achieved a goal. Next, I moved to Sydney and worked for Lloyd Lomas for three years, directly under Lloyd as one of his senior stylists.
I then moved to London and worked freelance. I came back to Sydney where I helped develop Joh Bailey and stayed there for five years. Next, I moved to a big salon in Hong Kong, called The Salon Orient, run by Kim Robinson. It was like a mini department store, I'd never seen a salon like it, even during my time in London. It was an amazing experience.
Finally I came back to Melbourne. I'm 47 now, that's nearly 30 years in the industry.'
