ABOUT CONRAD MACE
Never mind the current trends - razor sharp fringes, lopsided bobs or white-blonde crops - the Holy Grail of hair has always remained the same: ‘make me beautiful’.
It’s this one wish that drives South Yarra salon, Conrad Mace to pay particular attention to every client they work with. From beginning to end, before a single hair has been cut or coloured, clients feel beautiful simply because of their Conrad Mace experience.
“I want everyone to come in, feel welcome and comfortable and leave feeling great,’ muses co-owner and head stylist, Greg Conrad. “Not just because they look fabulous, but because they loved the entire experience.”
Each stylist works closely with his or her client to ensure the very best results are achieved, both in the salon and at home. And while every look is tailor-made to suit each client, the Conrad Mace signature is one of ultimate feminine beauty. “We create beautiful, classic hair, but it can also be fun and relaxed as well,” describes fellow owner Felicity Mace.
While Conrad Mace may be in its infancy, it is built on a combined history of more than four decades, thanks to veterans Greg Conrad and Felicity Mace. And though both boast CVs that read like a glossy who’s who of A-listers and red carpet events, they believe success lies in their combined achievements as a team.
"Even though Felicity and I have our surnames on the door, I want all the stylists to be successful," Greg says modestly. "They're the concrete of the salon."
And because Conrad Mace is as much about a client's experience as it is the end result, the salon itself has been carefully designed and decorated. "I like to think of it as a glamorous lounge room," explains Felicity. "You can come and have a blow dry, a coffee, read a magazine and relax as though you're in a beautiful apartment." One of the most striking features of the salon, second to the chic furnishings and friendly atmosphere, is the space. This luxury, not often found in modern salons, ensures each client feels at home, rather than in a production line.
Conrad Mace's success only proves that while trends come and go, classic beauty is still the ultimate prize.
